SUPPORT
The tool most necessary for human survival is Support. Think about it.
If there is no support in the shoe, the foot will ache and falter. If the engine within its housing has no support, it will fall to the ground. If the wheel does not have spokes to support its turn, it will collapse. If there are no trees—or attics—to hold the nests in the air, the birds will have no place to keep their young. If the house does not have a foundation, it cannot stand. If the tub has no sides to hold in the water, the bath will not happen.
Anything that holds us supports us. If we did not have gums in our mouths, nothing would hold our teeth in place, and they would fall out. If the womb did not support the embryo, the baby would die. If a human being does not have others to hold him—or, at least, support him—the person feels exiled.
An exiled person is lonely and frightened. If a society has a multitude of members that feel exiled, the fabric of the system will have many holes in it—weak spots in the population where there is no Support, where fragmented individuals, who do not feel they get enough support, teeter.
Then there’s the case of money—the strongest tool for the creation of Support that exists in a system. Even Love cannot engage the support that Money can.
So, if the members of a society are inherently selfish with their holdings—if they hoard their support and keep their sustenance to themselves, if they are miserly with their love or their money—the weave will unravel and the entire society will collapse.
For it is not possible to feel strong or safe in a frayed garment that has weakened with holes.
