PRIVACY

All human beings need Privacy.  This is one of the things that separates us from the animals—our need to be alone with ourselves, and out of view from the rest of the world.  The instinct to be pure essence of our own individuality—with no one else’s ears to hear, no one else’s judgment to influence, and no else’s aura to ooze into the edges of our space—helps us maintain our Identity.

Having an Identity—and a sense of Self—preserves our Sanity.  Without a personal identity that distinguishes us from other people, we become confused—allowing thoughts that are not our own to mingle—with our own ideas.  This is fine if the thoughts mingling with ours enhance who we are.
But if outside opinions do not help us be the best we can be—if the views of our peers weakens our ideas of personal best—they can depress us, enslave us, and stifle our growth.

For instance, if you know you care about the less fortunate people in the world—you are sincerely fond of those underdogs—and you are constantly surrounded by prejudice, sarcastic people who care nothing for those who do not dazzle, their incessant jabbing and insulting of the so-called losers can wear you down, until you find yourself going along with the jabbing and insulting.  If this is the case, your peer-pressured head will be in conflict with your loving heart, and the conflict can destroy your sanity.

Make no mistake. Peer pressure's a killer.

Tumbling spiritually inside the minds of those who do not think or feel like us is damaging to the psyche.  It’s brain-washing and undermining —the emptying into the void ideas that work best for us, ideas that keep us intact.

To be intact is about Identity, of being wholly ourselves.  When we place our lives in a private sanctuary, a place where no one else is permitted to enter, our Identity becomes clearer to us.  (Albeit, a well-rounded person should always have social time in the company of others.  To be a hermit could be to implode.)

However, those who have “lost their minds”—and broken from what we consider to be “reality”—have also lost their Identity, and lost their uniqueness as an individual.  Many times it is because the person feared loneliness, and refused to give themselves private time.

If Sanity is something you are looking for, then find yourself—discover your Identity in the Privacy of your own world.
