MADNESS
Madness is when the brain cannot silence itself. When the noise and the internal dialogue play incessantly, and the directionless chatter keeps us from accurately focusing, we are in a state of Madness.
Madness is when the heart cannot fill itself, when the Emotions feel empty and chronically lonely, when nothing—sometimes not even a lover—can satisfy this barrenness.
When the top of the body, the head, is scrambling a million miles a second—when the mind has one thought on top of the other, pathways of ideas intersecting in a jumble, in a maze of memories, worries and desires spinning back and forth, into the future and into the past—there is Madness.
When the center of the body, the chest and the stomach are nervous and cold—when the heart is restless and drained, and the emotions are tired and sad, or just plain angry—there is Madness.
Madness does not have to be evil, and it does not necessarily have to show itself. We are all quite mad—look at how we live our lives—yet most of us are incredibly functional beings.
Madness does not have to be negative, or out of control. Madness is the simple occurrence of a mind that is continuously babbling, or a heart that is forever feeling lonely.
Madness is what happens to human beings when they are misdirected as children. As a result, their Direction is all over the place.
When the adult guide is condescending, impatient or invasive, doting and excessive, illogical or self-possessed, or just plain not there, the child becomes confused.
Confusion is Madness.
Ever walk into a room that is full of clutter, or one that is in complete disarray and commotion, where you can barely find the furniture? Ever encounter a large group of people that are out of order, everyone talking at once, hollering over each other’s volume, where you can barely understand their words? The same people head for the door all at once—stepping over each other’s bodies, slamming into one another—and become aggravated.
A world in confusion, a home in chaos, a freeway entangled, a mind in worry, and a heart in angst, are all signs of Madness.
Now take this confusion—the initiator of Madness—and speed it up.
Yippee…enter the Modern World! (And do be careful of the television and the radio. They are Madness at racing velocities.)
Do you want Sanity? Find a quiet place in nature and plant yourself there.
Thank you, Sun
